Though it may seem to be recent but hybrid car technology has its roots way back in 1901. Ferdinand Porsche designed a car named the “Mixte†which had a conventional gasoline engine running a generator which drove the electric motors. Though, this car had a range of only 50 km, but it proves that people were wondering how to make hybrid cars long before you think. But it was nearly the end of the 1990s that the production of hybrid vehicles for general public started with the launch of the Honda Insight and the Toyota Prius. After 2004, the Prius has reigned supreme as the highest selling hybrid car with sales more than the sales of all other hybrids combined.
