Hybrid Cars Manufacturing Impact

General

Hybrid cars in general have atleast two sources of power driving them. In gas-electric hybrids, there are 2 sources of power driving the car, i.e. the gasoline engine and the electric batteries which are kept charged by a motor. The hybrid car technology is very complicated and advanced since there are two completely different engines under the same roof. So, how does this have an impact on the manufacturing? Is all of it even worth it?
This is one of the arguments provided by the groups who don’t support hybrid cars. According to them, the impact on manufacturing itself causes so much waste of resources that the car should not be called environment friendly. The manufacturing process for the gasoline engine is carried out in the similar fashion as for the other gasoline powered cars. But the electric batteries contain nickel, the extraction of which causes many environmental hazards. The primary mining of this nickel is done in Canada, from where it travels around the globe till it is finally used in the car batteries in Japan. All these increase in manufacturing costs impact the price and as a result the cars are quite a bit expensive than other gasoline only engines.
