Hybrid cars are the vehicles which use atleast two power sources to function with the overall purpose of saving precious fuel and giving greater fuel economy. The most common are the gas-electric hybrids such as the Toyota Prius which use a gasoline powered engine along with an electric battery. These hybrids help us save gas.
When the engine is being used in start-stop conditions such as heavy traffic, the electric engine does all the work and the gas engine is switched off. Hence, you save gas here and the electric engine doesn’t need to be charged separately. It gets charged by either a motor fitted with your engine or by regenerative braking i.e. converting the kinetic energy of the brake pedal into electric energy which charges the batteries.
Hybrid owners have reported huge difference when they switched from a normal to a hybrid. Not only did they manage to save more gas by using hybrid cars, they even reported smoother city driving due to the quiet and calm electric engine. On the highways, the gas engine provided all the power needed. So, use a hybrid, save gas and enjoy the feeling of a heavier wallet in your back pocket!
